A man caught with a large amount of marijuana in his home during a police raid has been sentenced to house arrest.
Joshua Allan Duff pleaded guilty on Thursday to possession for the purpose of trafficking marijuana, and also to possession of cocaine.
Police raided Duff’s home on the 300-block of 14th Street on July 5, 2013.
Inside, police found 1.66 pounds (753 grams) of marijuana and about 16 grams of cocaine. The value of the marijuana was $4,000, and the cocaine worth $1,200.
Crown attorney Christina Cheater said the marijuana found in Duff’s home was a large amount for a city Brandon’s size.
Duff also pleaded guilty to breaching his bail conditions by drinking alcohol on April 30.
Defence lawyer Ryan Fawcett said Duff got involved in the illegal drug trade to pay for his own addiction.
Judge John Combs sentenced Duff to 12 months house arrest for the possession for trafficking charge.
Duff was also fined $1,000 for having the cocaine, and a further $300 for the bail breach.
