Duck Race will be held next month

Hopeful "duck" owners in Westman will finally get their chance to win a cool million next month.

The Brandon Riverbank Duck Race, traditionally held each year on July 1 at Brandon's Canada Day festivities, has been rescheduled to hit the Assiniboine River at 12 p.m. on Aug. 13, complete with a barbecue and entertainment.

The popular fundraiser had to be called off on July 1, due to extremely high flows on the river which prevented Manitoba Hydro crews from placing the finish line buoys in the water.

If river conditions this time around are not safe, a random draw of the numbered rubber duckies will be held to determine the winners.

This year, the race holds the potential for a hefty payout. If the number of the winning duck matches a pre-selected number drawn from a pool that correlates with the number of ducks sold, its owner walks away with $1 million.

There is also a guaranteed grand prize of $5,000. A long list of other prizes are also up for grabs.

For people who had purchased tickets but don't like the new rules, full refunds issued to the name on the original ticket stub until 12 p.m. on Aug.11.

No new tickets are being sold.

For more information on refunds or the race, contact the Riverbank Discovery Centre at 729-2141.
