Mark Sefton will return as board chair and trustee Jim Murray will serve as vice-chair for the 2013-14 school year as voted by trustees during Tuesday’s inaugural Brandon School Division board meeting.
This will be Sefton’s third year as school board chair.
“It’s an exciting challenge,” Sefton said. “I always appreciate the support of my trustee colleagues. I look forward to the challenge … in Brandon we do have a number of challenges around enrolment growth and diversity of enrolment … so those are challenges but they’re good challenges to have.
“So I’m really looking forward to that challenge and continuing to work to make sure every child has the best possible education they can get right here in Brandon.”
Along with appointing a chair and vice-chair, the board’s inaugural meeting also gives trustees a chance to select which committees they will serve on throughout the school year.
“It’s an exciting time for the trustees involved,” Sefton said.
Today also marks the first day of classes for most local high school and elementary school students.
“For parents, it’s a very exciting time because it’s back to routine and back to a greater measure of predictability and that’s important for families.”
The next school board meeting will be held on Monday at 7 p.m.
