A man is dead after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 5 near Grandview — and whoever hit the man didn't stick around.
Police were called Tuesday at about 10:40 p.m. by passers-by, who saw the victim on the highway, provided aid, and called 911.
Despite their efforts, the 22-year-old victim was taken to hospital where he later died.
It was raining and dark at the time of the collision, police say.
The man was found about one kilometre northwest of Grandview, which is between Dauphin and Roblin, just north of Riding Mountain National Park.
The name of the victim, who is from Valley River First Nation, will not be released. Police say an autopsy is expected in the next few days.
Parkland RCMP are investigating the collision with the assistance of the RCMP Criminal Crash Investigation Team and the RCMP Collision Reconstruction Unit.
Anyone with information on this matter is asked to contact the RCMP at (204) 622-5050. Or to remain anonymous, call Manitoba Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
