More than two months since it appeared, the sinkhole on First Street is finally scheduled for repair next week.
City manager Scott Hildebrand said the reason for the delay is due to other water main breaks and water issues across the city.
“We just didn’t have the resources and manpower to get there,” he said.
First Street has been down to one southbound lane at Lorne Avenue since March 21. The hole, which was caused by a water main break, was at least eight feet deep and 20 feet wide.
It was temporarily filled, and closed to traffic ever since.
Hildebrand said the other concern is that frost was discovered eight feet below the ground in an area close to the sinkhole.
“If you go and fix it, once that frost comes out of the ground, it’ll sink again,” he said. “I want to do it right the first time.”
The repair is scheduled to begin Monday and is expected to be a two-day project.
