A 52-year-old man was killed following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 83, about 15 kilometres south of Melita, on Monday.
Virden RCMP said officers and fire and emergency services personnel were called to the scene shortly after 5 p.m. following a report of an overturned fuel tanker.
Police said the driver of the tanker, the lone occupant, was transported to the Melita hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The name of the victim, a Melita-area resident, will not be released.
Virden RCMP continue to investigate the cause of the collision with the assistance of an RCMP traffic analyst.
A diesel leak was detected and as of press time Monday, efforts were being made to contain it. The tanker was hauling 15,000 litres of diesel fuel at the time of the collision.
