Just 12 hours after someone stole a number of handguns from a Brandon business, police may have thought they had a lead.
At 4:30 p.m. on Monday, a report came in of two teenagers playing with a loaded handgun on Garwood Drive. Police say one of the teens had displayed the weapon out of the window of a home, but it wasn’t pointed at anyone.
After identifying a teenage suspect, police got his mom’s consent to search the home, where they turned up a BB pistol and a knife.
The mom turned those over to police, who say they won’t be laying charges against her 15-year-old son.
Police are still investigating the theft of handguns early Monday morning from Home Hardware.
