The Heart and Stroke Foundation in Manitoba needs volunteer canvassers for its campaign during Heart Month in February.
“We have a large and dedicated base of volunteer canvassers who make the foundation’s Heart Month campaign possible, but we need a few more Manitobans,” says community fundraising programs manager Heather Carroll. “Even four hours of volunteer time can make a big difference.”
Almost every region in the province needs volunteers for the campaign. Heart Month is an essential fundraiser, helping the foundation achieve its goals of preventing disease, saving lives and promoting recovery.
Canvassers solicit donations door-to-door in their community anytime throughout February. It takes most volunteers about three to four hours, throughout the month, to canvass the 20 to 25 homes on their route.
The foundation encourages canvassers to create online fundraising profiles at heartandstroke.ca/help, in order to canvass family and friends from the comfort of their own home.
Throughout Heart Month, 3,500 volunteer canvassers visit homes across the province, raising funds and distributing brochures featuring important heart health information.
In 2013, HSF raised $585,000 across the province during the Heart Month campaign. The goal for the 2014 campaign is $700,000.
“Volunteers make a difference. The foundation relies solely on volunteers and donors to raise funds. Money raised supports research responsible for breakthrough medical advances, helps the foundation affect social change, and provides health education to Manitobans,” Carroll said.
