Inmate accused of threatening officers

An inmate who allegedly threatened to shoot police and hurt a sheriff’s officer will be hauled in front of a judge.

Police say that a 39-year-old man from the resort community of Matlock was in jail at the Brandon Correctional Centre during May and June when he threatened to shoot police officers the next time he came into contact with them, as well as threatened to harm a specific sheriff’s officer the next time he saw him on the street.

After seeking an opinion from the public prosecutions office, the man was arrested Tuesday and charges of uttering threats were laid against him.

After a court appearance Tuesday, he was held in custody.
