Rideau Park-area residents are being asked for their input on what they’d like to see included when the park is transformed into a recreation hub.

The City of Brandon is seeking ideas on what Rideau Park-area residents want to have when the park is renovated and made into a recreation hub.

An online survey is available at brandon.ca, and the results of that survey will be taken into account as the park is redone, likely in 2013, said Bryce Wilson, the city’s manager of recreation development.

Wilson said the community has already been consulted several times about the renovation, which could include new swing sets, washroom facilities, play structures and a spray park.

"It’s been the view of the community residents that they are looking for more of a natural playground, so we are looking at a spray park with a small paddle pool area," Wilson said.

"There could be a small entertainment stage and a place to host the mechanical works for the spray pad. Perhaps some more community gardens."

The budget for the park renovation is $778,000, and a spray park "isn’t cheap," Wilson said. There would have to be some water lines added to the park to allow for a spray park and washroom facility.

As part of the proposed renovation, the current paddling pool may be removed, and the spray park moved closer to the lawn bowling facility.

A map with the proposed layout of the park after renovations is also available on the city website for people to review before taking part in the online survey.
