Two Brandon athletes are in the running for an international fitness photo competition.
Michael Clark and Amanda Branigan, both of the Brandon area, have made it into the top 10 in the male and female categories for Fitness Star International’s 2013 photo contest.
Clark, 33, said he’s been working out at Fitness Quest in Brandon for the past seven years and just recently started competing.
“I’m kind of in competition shape ... and this year will be my year that I’m going to do several in one year,” Clark said. “I just love the competition aspect of training, going for a goal, I kind of missed that when I got into the work force ... you just wake up and do the daily grind of going to work.
“I like training around my own schedule.”
Clark recently trained alongside Fitness Quest trainer Lylas Poulton, but has now branched out on his own. So far he’s competed in a world wide body building competition and this is the second time he’s competed in a Fitness Star International photo contest. Contestants were asked to submit their best fitness pose photo.
“It would be cool if we could get two people from Westman to win together.”
Clark and Branigan have trained together in the past and Branigan said she submitted her fitness photo to the competition while away on her honeymoon in Jamaica.
“It feels great, it was a great surprise,” she said. “This is the second time I’ve submitted a photo to the competition but first time I’ve made the top 10.”
Branigan said she’s been competing as a fitness model for the past two years and has really been enjoying it so far.
“I enjoy fitness and I like competing because it helps me set goals and keeps me on track.”
To vote, visit and “like” the Fitness Star International Facebook page and then “like” one of the photos in the “FSN Photo Contest 2013” female and male photo albums.
Those with the most “likes” will win. Voting closes Dec. 31.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Clark’s photo had just over 100 “likes” and Branigan had over 80.
The winner will receive a professional fitness photo shoot with pictures featured in Fitness Star magazine’s 2014 winter issue along with a variety of health supplements and other prizes.
According to their website page, Fitness STAR Magazine is viewed in over 170 countries, 70 per cent of which is North American traffic and averages on 150,000 page views per issue to date.
