Brandon’s Pita Pit is making it a little easier to eat healthier this month.
Local Pita Pit owner Darin Gentes said the store is offering 10 pitas under 500 calories for the entire month of January in an effort to help community members stay on track with their New Year’s resolutions.
"We’re trying to help encourage people to eat healthier," Gentes said. "We’re just making it simple for people who are trying to eat healthy."
This is the second year the local pita shop has launched its "resolution solution" campaign and so far, it’s attracted some attention.
"We’re getting lots of people in here getting the healthy pitas," he said. "Every January, lots of people are doing this and trying to eat healthier."
Gentes added that customers can receive daily discounts by "liking" the Pita Pit Canada Facebook page.
Today, 25 cents from every pita purchased will go toward Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart program which helps families across Canada who can’t afford to enrol their children in sports or recreational activities.
Gentes said it’s for a great cause because "there’s a lot of people that can’t afford it."
With the help of in-store information packages and knowledgeable staff, Gentes said he hopes their second New Year’s campaign teaches community members to eat healthier.
"A lot of the other fast food restaurants out there aren’t really telling you all the details so when you walk in there you think you’re eating healthy but you’re not."
When ordering food at any restaurant, Gentes said it’s important to avoid adding extras like cheese, bacon and sauces because "they can really add up."
The store is also hoping to partner with Anytime Fitness and the Running Room to offer those with memberships in-store discounts.
Pita Pit, located at 658 18th St., opened in Brandon in May.
