Strap on your skis and get ready for the seventh annual Riding Mountain Loppet next Saturday.
A Norwegian term for a long-distance cross-country ski race, a “loppet” is for anyone who loves the joy of gliding across the snow, whether for fun or competition.
In order to keep the event family friendly, but challenging for competitive skiers, the 2013 Loppet will offer distances ranging from the one-kilometre chipmunk challenge, to the 2.5 km lynx loop, to the 4.5 km jackrabbit route, to the 15.0 km cougar circuit and finally the 25.0 km wolf endurance course.
Spectators are welcome to cheer on the skiers.
The following day, celebrate the end of winter by taking part in our annual Family Fun Day activities at Riding Mountain National Park on March 3.
Scavenger hunts, snow sculpting and snow painting are just some of the fun things to do at the Friends Learning Centre. Free hot chocolate, a hot dog fundraiser and campfire program will also be offered.
