Bail has been denied for a man charged with arson and manslaughter in connection with the fatal house fire on First Street.
Judge Shauna Hewitt-Michta delivered her decision in Brandon provincial court on Monday afternoon.
That means 20-year-old Ashtyn Franklin James Richard remains in custody. His next court date has been set for next Monday.
Richard was arrested following a fire in the early morning of April 4 that destroyed a two-storey home on the 200-block of First Street.
The body of the home's lone resident, Robert (Bob) Long, was found on the second floor of the burned home.
Richard’s bail application began on Thursday when Crown attorney Jim Ross outlined allegations, which can’t be printed due to a publication ban.
Defence lawyer Ryan Fawcett asked court to release Richard to live with his parents at this home community, Sandy Bay First Nation.
Hewitt-Michta delayed making her decision until April 23 so she could review case law.
The ban also prevents publication of the reasons the judge gave for denying bail.
