RCMP responded to a farm accident northwest of Souris, Man., following a report of a man found pinned between a loader bucket and a large hay bale on Tuesday morning.
A man was found dead at a Souris-area property on Tuesday morning in what appears to be a farming accident.
RCMP Sgt. Line Karpish said no foul play is suspected in the death of the 61-year-old RM of Glenwood farmer whose body was found pinned between the shovel of a tractor and a hay bale.
"There is no foul play suspected," Karpish said. "By the way things are presenting themselves, clearly this is a farm fatality."
"Clearly he was conducting farming activity and found himself in a very precarious spot."
Souris RCMP were called to a farm northwest of Souris around 9 a.m. after the man’s body was discovered.
Police believe the man may have been working alone at the time of his death.
There are no details at this point as to exactly what happened, and Karpish said RCMP continue to investigate.
Police also notified the Workplace Safety and Health Division which was looking into the incident as of mid-afternoon Tuesday.
An autopsy is scheduled for today, although Karpish indicated that, under the circumstances, she wouldn’t expect the results to be released.
RCMP did not release the man’s name.
Meanwhile, police continued to urge farmers to use caution.
"Farming is a dangerous operation, and farmers need to be very careful around machinery and exercise all the due care that they can to keep themselves safe," Karpish said.

Today he was from Carrol. Carrol is not northwest of Souris.
In any case, a true tragedy and a terrible way to die.
