A 20-year-old man has pleaded guilty to raping a young girl and to molesting her on other occasions.
He’s one of three men accused of sexually assaulting the same girl at separate times.
The offender entered a guilty plea to sexual interference in Brandon court this week as Crown attorney Marycia Kruk supplied a general outline of the facts.
The assaults happened between December 2009 and July 2010, when the offender was 17 years old and the girl was seven to eight years old.
Kruk said that, on one occasion, the teen entered the girl’s room, pulled her out of bed by her foot and then raped her. On other occasions he molested her.
The assailant later gave a statement to police in which he claimed to be high on prescription medication during at least one of the assaults, had blacked out and didn’t recall details.
However, in court he admitted to the allegations as outlined by Kruk.
A pre-sentence report was ordered, and Judge Krystyna Tarwid set sentencing for Feb. 21, 2013.
No details were given about how the offender came to be in a position to take advantage of the girl, but it appears he may have known the child’s mother.
The assaults reportedly happened at the girl’s Brandon home.
It also appears that this offender is known to at least one of two other men who are charged with sexually assaulting the same girl on other occasions.
One of those men is accused of sexually assaulting her between Dec. 1, 2009, and Dec. 31, 2010, and is set to stand trial in February.
This accused was 20 years old at the time of the alleged offences and the girl was seven years old.
Another man is charged with sexually assaulting the girl between Jan. 1, 2011 and Feb. 5, 2012 — when he would have been 20 years old and she would have been eight years old.
He’s to make a court appearance in mid-January.
The teen and two accused men can’t be named because it might identify the young victim.
