Man injured while retrieving stray mattress

A man who hopped out of a truck to pick up a mattress ended up in hospital after the driver backed into him.

The man, 19, was a passenger in a pickup that was carrying a mattress in the back. Somewhere around the 1100-block of Princess Avenue at about 8 p.m. on Monday, the mattress blew out, and the 19-year-old got out to retrieve it. As the truck backed up, though, the driver ended up backing over the passenger. He was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

Police say that, although they continue to investigate, no charges are being considered at this time. Speed and alcohol were not factors in the incident.
