A violent robbery at a city beer vendor has brought a 21-month prison sentence for one of the robbers.
Dennis Garrison Blacksmith pleaded guilty to the robbery this week.
He admitted to being one of two suspects who robbed the beer vendor at the Keystone Motor Inn shortly after midnight on April 26.
During sentencing on Monday, court heard that the vendor employee was thrown to the ground and punched in the face twice before the robbers fled with beer and cigarettes.
Blacksmith and another male were arrested later that same morning when they were found drinking alcohol in the street.
The duo matched descriptions from the robbery, and Blacksmith confessed to police and admitted that he’d hit the vendor employee.
He was on a probation order at the time that forbade him from drinking alcohol.
Blacksmith was released while pending on his charges, but on May 25 he was found in violation of his bail curfew.
He violated that curfew and no-drinking orders again on June 12.
Defence lawyer Bob Harrison said 26-year-old Blacksmith was drunk at the time of the robbery, which he committed to feed an addiction. Blacksmith admitted to court that he has problem with alcohol.
For the robbery, Combs sentenced Blacksmith to 26 months in prison minus five months presentence custody, which leaves a term of 21 months.
Blacksmith received an additional four months in prison for the various breaches of court orders by drinking and violating his curfew.
That brings his total sentence to 25 more months behind bars.
