Minnedosa man killed in crash near festival site

A Minnedosa man was killed and two others injured when a driver hit three pedestrians early Monday near Rockin’ the Fields of Minnedosa.

Police report the vehicle was travelling south along Provincial Road 262, commonly known as the beach road, when it first struck two people who were walking on the shoulder of the highway around 3 a.m.

The vehicle kept travelling along the highway and hit a 44-year-old Winnipeg man.

Local RCMP, fire and EMS responded to the report.

The pair walking were a 23-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man, both from Minnedosa. They were taken by ambulance to the Minnedosa Health Centre, where the man died.

A family member has confirmed Shawn Cooper was killed in the crash.

The woman was treated for injuries and later released.

The 44-year-old was treated for his injuries on scene and released.

A 37-year-old suspect is in RCMP custody but no charges have been laid.

Alcohol is considered to be a factor in the collision.

Police continue to investigate.
