A young man killed in a motorcycle crash near Shoal Lake is being remembered as fun-loving and kind-hearted.
Kyle Donald Krauss was killed on Friday when his motorcycle strayed over the centre line and hit an oncoming pickup truck.
On Wednesday, his parents remembered him as a father and stepfather who loved his family and made friends easily.
"He accepted everybody and anybody for who and what they were," his mother, Heather Poole, said during an interview on Wednesday.
The crash that killed Krauss, 22, happened on Friday around 9 p.m. near the intersection of Station Road and First Avenue in Shoal Lake.
His 2008 Honda 125cc sportbike crossed the centre line of the road and veered into the path of a 2003 Dodge pickup truck.
The 54-year-old Shoal Lake man who was driving the pickup truck wasn’t injured in the collision and he won’t be charged with any offence as police say he wasn’t at fault.
RCMP continue to investigate, so there’s no explanation yet as to why the motorcycle crossed the line.
However, Kyle’s father, Garth Krauss, said police have told him that they suspect rider inexperience may have played a role.
"This was the first bike he’s ever bought and he only had it about a month," Garth said, adding his son was learning or had just learned to ride.
But Kyle loved to ride, said his dad who has had his own motorcycle licence since he was 16 years old and had considered buying a bike to spend time with his son.
Kyle worked for Russell Redi-Mix Concrete and his dad said that, shortly before the crash, Kyle had returned home from Saskatchewan where he’d been working on road construction.
"He just had a love of bikes and jumped on his bike and went for a bike ride," Garth said.
Kyle was born in Brandon and he lived in Virden, Moose Jaw, Sask., and Saskatoon before settling in Brandon about four years ago where he worked as a cook.
His parents are divorced and for part of his time in Brandon he lived with his mom. He’s also survived by a brother, a stepfather and four stepbrothers.
He was father to a three-year-old daughter who lives in Saskatoon, and stepfather to his girlfriend’s daughter who is about four years old.
In January, Kyle moved to Shoal Lake with his girlfriend so he could be closer to work and they lived with his father.
Housing in Shoal Lake is relatively affordable and the plan was for Kyle to buy a house.
"Everything was just going really well for him the last little while," Poole said.
His funeral is to be held today at Central United Church in Brandon. He’ll be buried at the Brandon Cemetery.
Garth said the Shoal Lake community has shown great support following the tragedy, adding he has been amazed to realize how many people knew his son.
Kyle played AA hockey as a youth in Moose Jaw and three of his former teammates are coming to his funeral.
"It’s amazing how many people he knew," Poole said.
