Neelin's IB grad celebration will be held Thursday

Neelin High School will hold an evening of celebration Thursday for this year’s graduates of the International Baccalaureate program.

Neelin has been offering the intensive academic program for the past five years. The first students to go through the program — the class of 2007 — are now completing undergraduate degrees.

The goals of the IB program are to prepare students for success in higher education and life in a global society and to promote the knowledge acquisition by making connections across traditional academic disciplines to look at how understanding is linked.

IB courses are recognized around the world and thus provide increased adaptability and mobility for students. The IB curriculum focuses on international perspectives of learning and teaching as well as their own home and culture.

Neelin offers IB courses at the Grade 11 and 12 levels. Students can enrol in IB courses or to follow the IB Diploma Program.

There are currently 50 students enrolled in IB courses and seven students in the IB Diploma Program at Neelin.

This Thursday’s graduation celebration will highlight the achievements of the students, including the presentation of certificates and other distinctive awards. The event will take place in the Learning Resource Centre from 7 p.m.-9 p.m.
