RCMP officers investigate the scene of a sexual assault, reported Tuesday morning, west of Brandon and south of Kemnay.

Police are looking for suspects after a woman said she was sexually assaulted in an open field west of Brandon Tuesday morning.

The distressed 26-year-old Brandon woman made her way to the nearby rural road south of Highway 1A to flag down a driver just before 7 a.m., when police were called.

The RCMP’s forensic identification unit then descended on the scene about five kilometres west of Brandon, combing for clues.

The assault happened in a field beside a steel building at the base of a celltower near Kemnay. No other buildings are within sight of the structure.

Police say when the woman was picked up, she had obvious injuries and showed signs of being assaulted. She was transported to the Brandon Regional Health Centre with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police do not have any suspects and wouldn’t say if the attacker, or attackers, is known to the victim. However, they don’t believe it was a kidnapping.

RCMP are asking anyone with information to contact the Brandon detachment at 204-726-7519 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 or submit a secure tip online at manitobacrimestoppers.com.
