Hey there, time traveller!

A few more people have managed to get their properties off the city’s tax arrears list.

The list, which contained about 220 properties that were two years behind on their property taxes when it was first released at the beginning of the year, was nearly halved in the first month, down to about 120 properties.

Another couple of dozen people have paid their way off the list now, with the most recent list dated March 3 containing just under 100 properties.

Those properties face increasing fines and penalties as the year goes on, with the ultimate fate being a tax auction in October. That is rare, although two properties were auctioned off last year.

According to the city, a list of all properties behind in their taxes was sent to a specialized agency in mid-February. At that time, there were slightly fewer properties still behind in their taxes compared to last year and the year before, although the total amount owing was more.
