In a couple of weeks, you might need them after an evening of too much Christmas cheer.
But right now, Operation Red Nose needs you — to volunteer as a driver or navigator for the 2012 season.
The free service, which enables Christmas tipplers to get themselves and their vehicles home safely and legally, involves three-person driving teams.
• Driver: The driver is responsible for actually driving the client’s vehicle to its destination along with the client and passengers themselves. To be a driver, you must be at least 21 years old and possess a valid driver’s licence.
• Navigator: The navigator accompanies the driver, client and passengers in the client’s vehicle, communicating with the Operation Red Nose Dispatch and providing driving directions. The navigator also prepares receipts for donations. To be a navigator, you must be at least 18 years old.
• Escort driver: The escort driver uses his or her own vehicle to transport the driver and navigator from location to location and follows while the client is getting a ride home. To be an escort driver, you must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid driver’s licence and own a vehicle that is currently insured.
Volunteers are needed for all positions. Volunteer forms are available to the Operation Red Nose office in the Keystone Centre, Customer Service at the Brandon Shoppers’ Mall and at CAA on 18th St.

This year Operation Red Nose will be operating the weekends of Nov. 30-Dec. 1, Dec. 7-8, Dec. 14-15, Dec. 21- 22 and New Year’s Eve.
Although the service is free, Red Nose does take donations, which are given back to local charities.
