Local organizations should apply to the federal government for aid in hiring youth so they can get a slice of $50 million in national funding, expected to help fund 3,000 youth jobs.
That’s the message from Brandon-Souris Conservative MP Merv Tweed, who applauded the new funding and noted that applications are being accepted until Oct. 19.
The initiative targets high-demand jobs like skilled trades and tourism, and is aimed at providing young people with on-the-job experience to help them land a career, Tweed said.
“Addressing existing and future skills shortages is critical to ensuring Canada’s continued economic growth and long-term prosperity,” Tweed said. “Today’s youth are tomorrow’s workforce."
Organizations including businesses, not-for-profit organizations, educational institutions and even local governments can apply for funding.
Applications opened yesterday. More information is available at servicecanada.gc.ca.
