An RCMP raid on an Elphinstone grow-op got an estimated $194,000 worth of drugs off the streets.
Two people in their 60s have been arrested in connection with an Elphinstone marijuana grow-op raided by RCMP.
In total, the raid got an estimated $194,000 worth of drugs off the street.
"I was pretty happy with it," said lead investigator, RCMP Const. Theresa Daranciang, who agreed that it represented a significant bust in a community of only 50 people.
Based on information from a confidential source, eight officers from the Elphinstone, Wasagaming, Shoal Lake and Hamiota detachments raided an Elphinstone house on Thursday.
Inside, they found 176 marijuana plants in various stages of growth. A photograph supplied by police shows the plants growing in pots.
Police also seized $1,800 cash and hydroponic equipment that included lights and fans.
Two residents of the home were arrested peacefully at the scene.
Roger Joseph Shatkosky, 68, and Nancy Diane Shatkosky, 62, have been charged with production of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
Both were released by police to appear in Minnedosa court on Feb. 12.
Elphinstone is 45 kilometres northwest of Brandon.
Despite its size, Daranciang said this isn’t the first time that a grow-op has been found in the village. The last time one was found here was 2007.
