Pair arrested in unregistered vehicle after liquor theft

The man behind the wheel of an unregistered vehicle turned out to be already wanted by police — who pulled him over after it was reported that his passenger had pocketed a stolen bottle of booze.

Officers were called by staff at the 10th Street and Victoria Avenue Liquor Mart late Sunday afternoon, who said that a woman had just shoplifted a bottle and left in a vehicle.

Police spotted the vehicle just afterwards, still travelling north on 10th Street. When they pulled it over, they arrested the woman accused of theft and recovered the bottle.

A 36-year-old Brandon woman faces charges of theft under $5,000 and is to appear in court on July 3. She has since been released from custody

However, although she was a passenger in the vehicle, she’s the one who was issued a ticket. Police say she was cited for allowing the man to drive a vehicle that was unregistered.

As for her getaway driver, police say there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest as well, since he had failed to comply with his probation. A 31-year-old Sandy Bay man was arrested and later released from custody. He’s to appear in court on June 2.
