Two people have been arrested after trespassing on the now-vacant property where a man was killed in a house fire. A third is still on the loose, police say.
A passerby called in Wednesday at about 5 p.m., to report seeing three males jump a fence in the 200-block of First Street. The three had apparently forced their way into a shed or workshop that was located on the same property where the gutted remains of a deadly arson still stand.
Officers who responded were able to nab two of the suspects as they left the structure, but a third managed to get away.
A 25-year-old man from Erickson is to appear in court on July 5 on a charge of break and enter.
A 17-year-old boy from Sioux Valley First Nation is to appear in court on June 12 on the same charge.
Police say they continue to investigate the break-in.
The home burned in a spectacular blaze just over a month ago. Ashtyn Franklin James Richard, 20, has been accused of setting the fire, in the early-morning hours of April 4. He faces charges of arson and manslaughter and remains in custody.
The body of the home’s lone resident, Robert (Bob) Long, was found on the second floor of the burned home.
