A water line break left some residents in Souris without water yesterday afternoon.
Town of Souris chief administration officer Charlotte Parham said the taps were turned off for residents and businesses west of the Souris River at about 2 p.m. to allow for a private contractor to fix the break.
She was hopeful the line would be operational by the end of the evening, but couldn’t confirm that it would be for sure.
"Knock on wood we haven’t had many problems like some other places this year such as Winnipeg," Parham said.
The Town of Souris Facebook page said: "We will post when the water will be turn(ed) back on but have no definite time at this time."
The break, which is near Third Street, happened on Saturday.
Parham said it’s the first major break for the community, but that it’s a unique year because the frost is deeper in the soil compared to most winters due to the consistently frigid temperatures.
