Peace Garden set to host Oktubafest

A weekend of big brass music and German food is in store as the International Peace Garden presents the inaugural “Oktubafest.”

The three-day event is scheduled for Oct. 57 and will feature a number of special programs offered to the public.

On Friday, a recital by professional euphonium artist Adam Frey of Atlanta and tubist Jerry Young of Eau Claire, Wis., will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Burdick Centre for the Performing Arts at the International Music Camp. A small admission will be charged at the door. From 6 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. in the Peterson Dining Hall across from the recital area, kraut and brats on a bun will be served.

Performances and workshops for tuba and euphonium players will be the focus of the weekend at the International Music Camp. High school, college musicians and teachers, as well as adult amateur musicians are invited to participate in learning and performing events.

On Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Burdick Centre, the massed tuba-euphonium choir will perform in concert with Frey and Young, and will feature the world premiere of a composition by Kenyon Williams commissioned for Oktubafest.

Oktubafest participants will also offer a Sunday morning tuba worship service at 11 a.m. in the Burdick Centre.
