Police continue to investigate assault

RCMP continue to investigate a report that a woman was sexually assaulted in a field west of the city, and there’s no word of any arrests yet.

Brandon RCMP and forensics officers have been joined by the Brandon Major Crime Unit in the investigation.

A 26-year-old Brandon woman flagged down a driver on a rural road around 7 a.m. on Tuesday. Police said she had obvious injuries and “showed indications” of being sexually assaulted.

She was taken to Brandon hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

It’s believed she was assaulted in an open field west of the city.

RCMP haven’t revealed whether the attacker, or attackers, were known to the victim.

Although, as of Tuesday, they didn’t believe the incident involved a kidnapping.

Investigators continue to seek people of interest and anyone with information is asked to call Brandon RCMP at 204-726-7519.

They can also contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, online at manitobacrimestoppers.com or by texting “TIPMAN” plus a message to CRIMES (274637).
