Police investigate after sixth lewd act of year

Police now say there have been at least six cases this year where women have been followed by a man who was performing at indecent act.

The latest case was reported Wednesday evening, but apparently happened in the early-morning hours of Sunday, April 22.

At about 5 a.m. that day, the woman says she had just been dropped off by a taxi on the 300-block of Second Street, when she noticed a man standing across the street. As she was entering a home in that block, she says she turned to see that the man had moved to her side of the street, had exposed himself and was performing an indecent act.

The woman continued inside the house. She said the man left on foot, headed south. He is described as a Caucasian male, about 25-30 years of age, with short blonde hair, wearing jeans and a hoodie.

Police say the description of the male suspect is very similar to that of other recent incidents of this type, with the major difference being that this suspect was described with blonde hair. The earlier incidents described the suspect as having brown hair, possibly in a brush cut. All of these incidents are currently being investigated.

At least five other cases have been reported this year.

Around 11 p.m. on March 30, a 25-year-old woman was followed home to the 500-block of McTavish Avenue by a man who was in the midst of committing an indecent act.

Two other women reported separate incidents that happened on Feb. 26 — one on the 1500-block of 26th Street at about 3:30 a.m., and another about an hour later on the 1000-block of Third Street — where a man fitting the same description approached them from behind and was committing an indecent act.

A fifth incident happened at about 7:30 a.m. on Jan.14 on the 700-block of 18th Street, when a suspect popped out from behind a bus shelter to accost a victim who was walking past.

And, in a sixth case, at about 9 p.m. on Feb. 3, a woman alleged that she was grabbed by the suspect, who again had his genitals exposed. This happened on the 2300-block of Ottawa Avenue, but she was able to flee the area and call police. A suspect was identified and arrested on Feb. 22.

In that case, a 24-year-old Shilo man was to appear in court on April 16 on a charge of sexual assault.
