Betty Kasprick of Rivers recently won $25,000 by picking five of six numbers plus the bonus on a Western 649 draw. (SUBMITTED)
A Rivers woman says her $25,000 lottery win will help her with her retirement.
Betty Kasprick recently took home her hefty winnings after picking five of the six numbers plus the bonus in the April 19 draw of the Western 649. She split the win with a ticket in Alberta.
As previously reported in the Brandon Sun, Kasprick thought she had won just $50 when she went to the Super Thrifty Pharmacy to check her ticket. She jumped back when the machine started to shut down and boomed in a loud automated voice: "Do not rip ticket."
"‘Oh my God,’ was my first thought," Kasprick said. "I was so shocked. Then I thought, ‘I won $25,000!’"
Kasprick usually plays her own numbers in the lottery, but random chance had turned out luckier than she dreamed with a quick pick.
She says the windfall will help her plan for her retirement.
"I want to put it in the bank and let it work for me," she said.
