A possible midnight strike at Canada Safeway stores has been averted.
United Food and Commercial Workers is reporting on its website that a tentative deal was reached Sunday.
Workers will hold a ratification vote
on March 23. The union did not release any further details.
On Feb. 23, Safeway workers across Manitoba voted overwhelmingly in favour of a strike. During meetings in six locations, members of UFCW local 832 voted 99.7 per cent in favour of giving their negotiating committee a strike mandate.
The collective agreement expired on March 15.
The UFCW represents roughly 3,000 Safeway workers in the province.
Key issues included the elimination of a two-tier wage scale.
