School division changes several catchment areas

The Brandon School Division has now formalized some of its catchment areas to help make things easier for parents and students, school board chair Mark Sefton says.

School trustees passed three motions that resulted in catchment area changes during their regular board meeting on Monday evening.

“This will be a relief for parents,” Sefton said. “What we’ve had in the last few years is we’ve had a little corner of the Brookwood subdivision on Aurora Crescent I believe it is, that was excluded from the catchment area of Linden Lanes, it is now included.”

The Brookwood development area, including Aurora Crescent, Lakeview Drive and Southview Drive, which are located east of Brookwood Drive, will now be included in the Linden Lanes catchment area.

West of Brookwood Drive for Lakeview and Southview will remain in the Riverheights catchment area with busing provided. School trustees agreed to reword this particular motion during the meeting so that it would include all of these areas.

“The attempt at the rewording was to make it clear,” Sefton said. “When the map was originally drawn it didn’t anticipate how everything would develop.”

The Stickney area between 18th Street and First Street is also being moved from the Ecole New Era School catchment area to the Earl Oxford School catchment area. Students residing on Westaway Bay will now also be included in the Riverheights School catchment area.
