This weekend marks the return of the Brandon Scrapbookers Charity Convention.
Now in its sixth year of operation, the convention has donated more than $50,000 to local Westman charities.
More than 150 participants are expected, as well as five stores and five consultants from around Manitoba. Scrapbookers will be busy creating their artwork and enjoying the fun of the event.
Charities that will receive donations this year include the Westman Lions for the Military Memorial Park, Westman Women’s Shelter, Suitcases for Kids, and Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
Organizers have also announced the inaugural collection of suitcases for children in foster care.
Many times children have to tote their belongings from one place to the next in paper bags or garbage bags.
“We are pleased to be joining the collection of suitcases for these children, to help them feel safe about their belongings and to know that Westman cares about all our children,” convention chair Janet Berezowecki wrote in a press release. “We invite you to join our event this weekend and feast your eyes on artistic creations of our participants, as well as learning more about the charities we help.”
The convention began Friday at Brandon’s Victoria Inn.
The convention will continue through the weekend, running from 9 a.m. to midnight today, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
