Semi-trailer carrying cattle overturns in RM of Cornwallis

Emergency crews respond to a semi-trailer that overturned on Provincial Road 103 west, about 14 km south of Brandon in the RM of Cornwallis on Friday afternoon. Sixty-four head of cattle were trapped in the vehicle. Many were rescued but some had to be put down on the spot due to injuries. RCMP said the driver of the rig was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

A semi-trailer carrying 64 head of cattle slipped off a rural road southeast of Brandon shortly after noon yesterday.

RCMP said the driver of the rig was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

The incident happened on Provincial Road 103 west, about 14 kilometres south of Brandon in the RM of Cornwallis when the northbound rig moved to the side of the road to make way for an approaching vehicle, it went off the edge and into the ditch and turned on its side.

Many cattle were rescued, but some had to be euthanized at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.
