Slippery roads and poor visibility contributed to a series of crashes on Wednesday in the city and on the highways — including one incident near Oak Lake that involved seven vehicles.
Melita RCMP say they were first called to the Trans-Canada Highway about three kilometres east of the Oak Lake turnoff shortly before 1 p.m.
They say a pickup truck rear-ended a semi-trailer, and four other vehicles that tried to avoid the crash ended up in a collision or in the ditch.
Officers at the scene began diverting traffic to a nearby service road, but a semi-trailer went off the road there, too, blocking the detour route.
There were no injuries reported from any of the related crashes.
