Jet vapour trails encircle the sun Wednesday morning as personnel from CFB Shilo engage in “fire control” training. This standard training, which will be going on all week, takes place three or four times a year.

A CFB Shilo training exercise has some community members wondering why they’re seeing jets flying over the south end of Brandon.

CFB Shilo spokesperson Lori Truscott said via email this is regular training exercise for forward air controllers and forward observer officers. She said this type of training is done three to four times per year.

"It is just a small number of soliders taking part as this is a specific trade within the artillery," Truscott said.

The training exercise will wrap up near the end of this week, she said.
