An illegal shopping spree has resulted in a woman being banned from Walmart.
Angela Marie Myran pleaded guilty in Brandon court on Thursday to theft for trying to shoplift 25 items worth $414 from the Brandon Walmart on June 20.
Crown attorney Marnie Evans said the accused claimed that a friend had encouraged her to steal the goods for a birthday party. If successful, she’d receive a payment equal to half the value of the items taken.
Myran said his client now denies that motive. Her friend did encourage her to shoplift, but the plan was to use a previous receipt with similar items on it to return the stolen goods for cash.
Myran is a single mom on social assistance, defence lawyer Andrew Sieklicki said, and she planned to use the money she received to buy clothing for her children.
She received a nine-month conditional sentence that bans her from attending the Brandon Walmart.
