Firefighters were able to quickly put out a grass fire near the centre of the city Thursday evening, but not before it singed a tree and a fence.
Both suffered just minor damage, authorities say. The fire was reported just before 10 p.m. in an open area west of the 600-block of Sixth Street — a block that also houses a gas station.
It is believed the fire was accidental and may have been caused by a discarded cigarette.
