A man who sent a teenage girl and a woman pictures and a video of himself engaged in sex acts with a dog — and offered them each $2,000 to have sex with him and his pet — has pleaded guilty to four charges.
In Brandon court on Monday, Tyson Larry Shiels pleaded guilty to two counts of trying to solicit illicit sex for two separate incidents.
The 31-year-old also pleaded guilty to two counts of circulating obscene material.
Sharing a brief outline of the facts, Crown attorney Grant Hughes said that in September a teenage girl was on the Plenty of Fish dating website when she was contacted by Shiels.
Shiels offered the girl $2,000 to have sex with him and his dog and sent her a "graphic" video that depicted him performing oral sex on a dog, Hughes said.
The other case is similar.
Hughes said that another woman was on Plenty of Fish on a different occasion in September when Shiels also offered her $2,000 to have sex with him and his dog. She was sent two photos, including one that showed a dog licking Shiels’ genitals.
Following court, Hughes said that the victim in the first case was 17 years old, while the second victim was 26 years old. The video and photos were sent to them via the Internet. There had been a previous report that Shiels may not have realized the age of the teen at the time, but that wasn’t mentioned in court.
Shiels and the victims were unknown to each other.
He was also initially charged with two counts of bestiality, but those charges were dropped as he entered his guilty pleas to the other offences.
Defence lawyer Michael Dubois requested a pre-sentence report to consider the possibility of a conditional sentence for his client. Such sentences commonly allow offenders to serve their sentences at home under house arrest.
A sentencing date has been set in February.
Shiels was a CFB Shilo soldier at the time of the offences and a base spokesperson confirmed that he remains a soldier at the base.
However, the spokesperson noted that a person’s status with the military is subject to review whenever they’re convicted of a criminal offence.
