Hey there, time traveller!

Double up the duty
The walking path on Braecrest Drive needs to be sanded or salted. Many people walk and jog that path and it’s very slippery. Yet the City of Brandon can have an employee drive down it and empty the dog waste bins. It would make better sense to do both at the same time. The new dog park must be more important. And we wonder why taxes skyrocket.
Life can change at any time — don’t be so quick to judge
I am a 53-year-old disabled person who lives off of $8,286.24 per year. I have to pay all my expenses such as rent, phone, life insurance, food, bills and medical supplies and treatments that are not covered. I do not smoke, drink or do drugs and if it wasn’t for my parents letting me live with them for cheap rent, I’d be on the streets. I’ve been on a waiting list with Manitoba Housing for over five years now, so yes, Brandon does need more low-income places. I’ve worked since I was 15 until I could no longer at the age of 41. I, too, have paid taxes, so please don’t be so quick to judge. This is not where I saw myself being at my age.
It’s not all about you
Regarding the mayor’s comments on the front page of the Dec. 5 paper, “And so, for all intents and purposes it’s done. Which I think is really unfortunate,” regarding the casino. It is obvious it is her opinion which matters by saying “which I think is really unfortunate.” Does she not care what the public says? The citizens of Brandon more than once turned down a casino. Secondly, if that is “her” personal goal, is she going to listen to the people when it comes to the budget issues, which she asks for our opinions on what we should do? I don’t know if she will say, “which I think is really unfortunate” when it comes to the budget issues.
All talk and little action
Why do governments keep talking about affordable housing when they spend millions of dollars fixing up the old Dome Building which helps nobody? I think these politicians should feel awfully guilty.
Where are the factories?
I would like to know where all the jobs are in Brandon. Working at fast-food outlets just doesn’t cut it. You can’t pay $1,200 a month rent when your gross income is $1,200 a month at these fast-food places. We need jobs that are paying $30 per hour. And you might as well close the colleges because it is a waste of time. All that technology and all that, but where are the factories? Where are the jobs? Like my dad said to me the other day, jobs haven’t changed that much since he was a kid in the 1950s and he is 75 years old so he knows what it is. His family built this city of Brandon so he knows what he is talking about.
If your snoozing your losing
In regards to Mayor Decter Hirst saying that the city’s casino plan is dead. Well you know what? It should have read in big headlines, “Poor, poor me.” The city has been for this casino for a long time — even when Rick Borotsik was in there, they wanted a casino. Now because Carberry has the casino, Brandon is going to cry over it. Well if you snooze, you lose, Brandon! Wake up and smell the coffee, smell the roses, get with it, get with the theme! Winnipeg has two casinos, Brandon could have had one nice casino and everything would have been fine. Now they haven’t got anything.
With all the not-so-affordable housing going up in Brandon ... where is the affordable housing for the young people going to be? Because people cannot afford those condos right now!
Hopefully no one else will get hurt
A big thank you to the Keystone Centre for fixing the gaps in the Plexiglas where the coaches walk into the player’s box. This gap allowed for a puck to come through at the Nov. 3 game and it hit our 10-year-old daughter in the head. Also a big thank you to the Brandon Wheat Kings! Your care and concern for our daughter after being hit was greatly appreciated.
Stop looking for a scapegoat
Regarding the Phoenix Sinclair case. So although we all know right from wrong it is OK to shoot your baby with a BB gun and blame it on CFS? Give us a break and put blame where it is due!
