Bus stop move putting riders in jeopardy

Regarding the ridiculous move to take the bus stop away from Middleton Avenue by McDonalds and move it across the highway. There are plenty of students and others who work at McDonalds whose lives are at risk now having to cross the highway in the dark. It just doesn’t make sense. It is dangerous and it was a silly move. I hope someone does something about it before someone gets killed.

Divorces can be good for a student’s wallet

Regarding post secondary student debt load (Our View editorial July 23), while I agree that parents should financially assist and support their children in their post-secondary studies, I find it interesting that there is a double standard when it comes to forcing (court ordering) divorced parents to fund their children’s post secondary education to the tune of 100 per cent (50 per cent from each parent). This double standard absolves the child of any responsibility of owning any of the financial burden of their own education. The same two parents if still married in theory have the right to only provide financial assistance to a level that they can realistically and comfortably afford.

Late nights mean trouble

Time to put an end to such nonsense and destruction before lives are lost — everyone is at risk! Those roaming the streets and back lanes at 3 a.m., etc., definitely are not up to anything good — setting fires to buildings, ruining people’s property, destroying bus benches etc., should not be tolerated. It is time for some serious action on the part of the mayor and council in the form of curfews etc. There is no respect for human life and we are allowing such action in our city! Get the gangs and their activities off our streets and out of town the sooner the better — we don’t need them here!

Repair the roads first

When is the city going to fix Maryland Avenue before there is an accident with people dodging the big holes and flying gravel? City council seems more obsessed with back lanes and garbage bins. Let’s get the streets fixed.

Something just doesn’t add up here

Regarding politicians pensions. What is wrong with this picture? You politicians are overpaid and it is time that you started to contribute more to your pensions. Why are we to wait until 67 years of age to obtain our pensions when you people put in six years of “so-called” service and able to obtain it at 55 years. That is not fair. You people should have to wait until age 67 like the rest of us people who put in 30, 40, 50 years of work and don’t get anywhere near the amount that you people get. Get real! It is no wonder that there is so much apathy in this country.

Dental needs to be covered too

How can our medical plans pay for people to stay for weeks or for months in a hospital free of charge with free medications and yet dental care, root canals, bridges etc., are so expensive if one can not afford a plan or if you are a student going to university?
