Twenty students from Vincent Massey High School will be texting while driving this morning — and this time, it’s with the blessing of the Brandon Police Service.
“Distracted Driving 101” is an awareness event where students get behind the wheel of golf carts to experience firsthand the effects of distracted driving.
The students will run two separate courses laid out on the Keystone Centre south parking lot — once without texting and once while texting. Each will be judged on speed and accuracy — gauged by how many pylons they flatten.
The event kicks off at 11 a.m., after which Const. Dave Scott will drive home the message that distracted driving costs lives and can be costly legally.
