The former Zellers store in Shoppers Mall is being converted into a Target store. Company representatives are holding a job fair at a local hotel until Thursday.
As Target inches closer to swinging its doors open in Brandon, the American retail giant is in the midst of a weeklong hiring blitz.
Company representatives from Canada and the U.S. are holding a job fair at the Victoria Inn, taking applications and interviewing potential retail workers for the Shoppers Mall location, which is slated to open in the spring.
Positions include stocking, sales and customer service.
While Saturday was a slow day according to on-site organizers, one man who went through a series of interviews on the spot said a job fair like this eases the pressure of applying for a job.
"It’s a little easier," he said.
There are eight to 10 interviewers, each hiring in various departments, including general sales associates and electronics sales.
When Target will cut the ribbon on the first of its 124 stores, including five in Manitoba, still hasn’t been announced.
Most stores feature a photo processing centre, a pharmacy and a Food Avenue restaurant. About 240 locations feature an upscale grocery shopping section. The Brandon location will include a Starbucks coffee shop.
The job fair continues until Thursday. Potential employees can apply online at target.ca/careers. Applicants are encouraged to complete an online application prior to attending the job fair.
