A 14-year-old boy died on Friday afternoon after he was struck by a vehicle while riding his bike near Waywayseecappo First Nation.
According to the RCMP, the boy was found unresponsive on Highway 45 before he was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
RCMP say according to witnesses, the vehicle — driven by a 64-year-old Waywayseeccappo male resident — and the cyclist were both travelling eastbound on Highway 45 when the cyclist veered into traffic.
The collision occurred despite the efforts of the driver to take evasive action, RCMP say.
Alcohol is not considered a contributing factor.
RCMP Prairie Mountain Area continue to investigate with the assistance of a criminal crash investigation team and an RCMP traffic analyst.
