Teen gets probation for dealing dope at high school

A teen who sold drugs at school to support his own drug habit has been sentenced to probation.

Court heard that the student was arrested at the office of Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School on Dec. 19.

A vice-principal informed police that the boy had been caught with ecstasy, and a baggie that held 23 pills was handed over to police.

The boy told police that he had been selling the pills for $10 a “hit.”

The youth, who can’t be named, pleaded guilty on Thursday to possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

As the boy had no prior record, Crown attorney Stephen Christie said he was willing to suggest probation for the boy.

Defence lawyer Philip Sieklicki said the boy was suspended from school for 30 days, transferred to an “at risk” program and placed at a different school.

Sieklicki said the teen was selling drugs to fund his use of marijuana.

The boy was sentenced to 12 months of probation. The order forbids him from attending Crocus Plains, and requires him to do 40 hours of community service work.
