An employee who stole hundreds of dollars from Home Depot will have to undergo his own version of “home improvement.”
He’ll have to take counselling as directed by his probation officer while he serves a house arrest sentence.
Donald Patrick Carey was sentenced to 60 days house arrest on Thursday for stealing an estimated $990 from Home Depot from June 4-23.
The money — much of it taken from cash drawers or cash registers — ranged from rolls of coin to a $100 bill and a $100 cash deposit made by a customer.
Some of the thefts were caught on surveillance camera and the store contacted police on June 25.
Carey, 30, pleaded guilty on Thursday to theft. Court heard that he stole the money because his estranged wife had drained their joint account, leaving him penniless.
Carey’s house arrest sentence will be followed by nine months probation. He’ll have to pay $990 back to the store.
He’s since lost his job at Home Depot.
