A truck thief didn’t make it very far Monday morning, after the engine cut out automatically.
The owner of the truck, a 2005 Dodge Dakota, reported the attempted theft to police just before 8:30 a.m. on Monday. It had been parked in a driveway on Juniper Bay when the culprit tried to make off with it.
Police say the truck had been started using a spare key from inside. But although the key could be used to unlock the doors, it didn’t have the electronic chip that would allow the engine to remain running.
Instead, the truck stopped after moving about 20 feet down the driveway, and the thief abandoned it.
There was no damage to the truck, and police say they continue to investigate.
